Why privacy matters even if you have nothing to hide

When talking to friends about privacy, a common refrain from many is that they have nothing to hide. This is a tell sign that they really have no idea what privacy really is, that it’s not about just them, & why digital privacy matters to the well-being of society as a whole.

The Hate One, a YouTuber that I subscribe to does a great job of reminding us of some egregious privacy & civil rights abuses that currently go on in the name of data collection & “targeted advertising”, & explaining why we should all care.

Glen Greenwald

Glenn Greenwald was one of the first reporters to see — & write about — the Edward Snowden files, with their revelations about the United States’ extensive surveillance of private citizens. In this searing talk, Greenwald makes the case for why you need to care about privacy, even if you’re “not doing anything you need to hide.”
